YogaNow Mission Statement
Our mission is to create a welcoming and safe environment to learn and practice yoga in community. We look for success, not just in terms of financial viability, but also in the quality of our services, the way we respect our students and teachers and the human spirit, and our overall commitment to the greater community. We are dedicated to the belief that healing and transformation are possible for us all. Yoga is the ultimate playground – a place to explore our bodies, hearts and minds, to push and move our edges and especially, to have fun!
Ethical Guidelines for YogaNow teachers and teacher trainees
As a teacher or teacher trainee at YogaNow LLC I agree to uphold the following guidelines:
All YogaNow teachers strive to maintain the highest standards, both personally and professionally. We adhere to the basic yoga principles of the Yamas and Niyamas:
Yamas: (Behavior restraints) Ethical guidelines for relating with others in society and the external world.
Ahimsa (Non-violence), Satya (Truthfulness),Asteya (Non-stealing), Brahmacharya (Walking or having ethical conduct like God, boundaries): Aparigraha (Non-clinging, non-grasping):
Niyamas: (Internal-restraints): Observances of one’s own physical appearance, actions, words and thoughts.
Sauca (Purity, orderliness, cleanliness): Santosha (Contentment): Tapas (Focus),
Svadhyaya (Study of the Self): Ishvara Pranidhana (Devotional offering to the Lord-faith)
The two fundamental rules at YogaNow 1) Create safety for the student in every way possible, communicate clearly and directly 2) Remember that the students are already sacred and good we are just here to assist everyone to open to more happiness and aliveness.
We actively encourage diversity by respecting all students regardless of age, physical limitations, race, creed, gender, ethnicity, religion affiliations or sexual orientation.
We avoid words and actions that constitute sexual harassment or the perception of violating boundaries.
We care for the environment and studio by practicing sauca, keeping the space need and orderly.
We support all students in yoga classes, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to the best of our abilities as yoga teachers.
We attend to the class – demonstrate poses but never personal practice as we teach. The students need our focus, especially with props, and adjustments as appropriate.
We always check before the class starts with individuals about injuries, illness, and problems and make sure that the adjustments we offer are acceptable to the student.
Problems and questions always eventually arise in our working lives, in any environment. The key point is to communicate honestly and as quickly as possible with the Director of Yoga Teaching.
Every YogaNow teacher is encouraged to have personal malpractice insurance for teaching, resources for options can be found through Yoga Alliance.
